Many local and well-known individuals from throughout the world are natives of Algeria. Famous Algerians include athletes, authors, politicians, activists, musicians, and more. Some are well-known for the influence they have had on Algeria in the past and now. In their respective fields, several well-known Algerians are well-known all over the world.

1.Abdelkader El Djezairi

In the middle of the 19th century, Abdelkader ibn Muhieddine, also known as the Emir Abdelkader or Abdelkader El Djezairi, was a religious and military leader in Algeria who led a revolt against the French colonial invasion.

He gathered a band of Algerian tribesmen that for several years successfully resisted one of the most technologically advanced armies in Europe. He was an Islamic teacher and Sufi who unintentionally found himself in charge of a military expedition. His unwavering adherence to what is now known as human rights, especially with regard to his Christian opponents, won him widespread admiration. In addition, his pivotal intervention in 1860 to prevent a massacre of the Christian community in Damascus earned him accolades and awards from all over the world.

Sporting Clube de Portugal of the Portuguese Primeira Liga and the Algerian national team both use Islam Slimani as a striker. In 2012, Slimani made his debut abroad and had 14 international victories and 9 goals as of June 2013.

4. Cheb Hasni

Hasni Chakroun, often known as Cheb Hasni, was an Algerian Raï musician. When his career peaked in the late 1980s and early 1990s, he was well-liked throughout North Africa.

He was one of seven children raised in a working-class family as the son of a welder. Despite the fact that Hasni is best known for his love songs, he also wrote about controversial topics like divorce and drinking. 1994 saw his murder.

He commanded a sizable army under the direction of the Umayyad Caliph Al-Walid I from Morocco’s northern shore, and he gathered his forces on the sizable hill that is now known as Gibraltar. The Arabic name Jabal Triq, which means “mountain of Tariq,” and which gave rise to the Spanish name “Gibraltar,” is derived from it.

Former Algerian manager and player Lakhdar Belloumi played football. One of the top players in Africa and the entire globe, he is often regarded as the greatest Algerian player of all time.

His invention of the Blind Pass is credited to him. He receives the title of fourth-best African player of the 20th century. He is the Algerian player with the most appearances, and, behind Abdelhafid Tasfaout, he is the team’s second-best all-time scorer. When Algeria played West Germany in their 1982 World Cup debut, Belloumi’s goal against them gave Algeria a shock 2-1 victory.

7. Matoub Lounès

In addition to being a well-known mondol player and singer from the Berber Kabyle, Lounès Matoub spent his entire life in Algerian politics, serving as a vocal supporter of secularism and the Berber people. In Kabylie and the Berber World, he is revered as a hero and martyr, but he is despised by the majority of the Arab population in Algeria due to his atheism, the alleged blasphemy of some songs, and his ardent support for Berber rights.

During the Algerian Civil War, he was unpopular on both sides of the conflict. Kabylie had severe riots after his assassination, which happened under mysterious circumstances. Although certain individuals in the Algerian regime have accused the Islamist militants of murdering Matoub Lounès, Berber Algerians still hold the Algerian state responsible.

8. Noureddine Morceli

Having won the 1500 m race in the 1996 Summer Olympics, Noureddine Morceli is a retired Algerian athlete. Born in Ténès, Noureddine Morceli became well-known for his athletic prowess after taking home the silver medal in the 1500 m at the 1988 World Junior Championships.

Throughout his professional life, Morceli visited Riverside, California, where he went to college, to practice and take advantage of the pleasant winter weather.

9. Taoufik Makhloufi

An expert in middle-distance running from Algeria, Taoufik Makhloufi, competes in track and field. In the summer Olympics of 2012, he won the 1500-meter gold medal. Makhloufi has been accused of doping multiple times since winning the gold medal at the Olympics in London.

A gold medalist in the 800 meters at both the 2011 All-Africa Games and the 2012 African Championships. He has two World Athletics Championship appearances under his belt for Algeria. His 800 m and 1500 m personal records are 1:43.71 and 3:30.80, respectively. He exercises at GS Pétroliers.

10. Lakhdar Brahimi

Lakhdar Brahimi is an Algerian who has served as an advisor to the UN and as the UN and Arab League Special Envoy to Syria since August 2012. He is a part of the group of world leaders known as The Elders, which promotes world peace. Brahimi is a participant in the Commission on Legal Empowerment of the Poor, the first global initiative to pay particular attention to the relationship between exclusion, poverty, and the law.

He also belongs to the Global Leadership Foundation, which seeks to advance ethical leadership globally. He serves on the governing board of the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute and is a distinguished senior fellow at the London School of Economics and Political Science’s Center for the Study of Global Governance.
