10 Infamous Canadian Serial Killers

Canada is always thought of as a country where people are kind and only good things happen there. However, that is not the case in that Canada is known for having some serial killers that terrorised the country. The country has fewer deaths from killings compared to the United States but the number is still quite high. Therefore, this article will explore the ten infamous killers from Canada to give the reader an insight into the horrors that have plagued the people of that country.

1 Elizabeth Wettlaufer

The serial killer was a nurse at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health in Toronto. While working as a nurse in different long-term care facilities for the elderly in Woodstock, London, Paris, and Ingersoll, Ontario, she admitted to colleagues that she had killed and attempted to kill several patients. She late confessed to the local authorities that she had deliberately given eight elderly people insulin injections that would have killed them. When arraigned to face trial, Elizabeth pleaded guilty to all the eight counts of murder that she had been charged with and she was given eight life sentences that run concurrently.

2 Robert Pickton

The serial killer resided in Port Coquitlam where he owned a pig farm. The farm was the go-to place for locals and prostitutes who wanted to have a good time. During one of those parties in 1997, Pickton attempted to murder a sex worker but was not successful and he was charged with attempted murder. However, the charges were dropped. It wasn’t until 2002 when local authorities searched Pickton’s farm, they were shocked to find things that belonged to women that had been reported to be missing. He was arrested and charged with 27 counts of murder after the remains of the women were exhumed from his farm. He was found guilty and sentenced to life in prison without parole for 25 years.

3 Cody Legebokoff

He is among the most notorious serial killers in Canada and also one of the youngest serial killers who have been convicted as he was only 20 years old. The serial killer was apprehended covered in blood by local authorities after clubbing Loren Leslie who was 15 years to death. When questioned on why he murdered the teenager, he said that he was a redneck and that is what they do for fun. When his DNA samples were tested, Cody was linked to three other murders. When he went to trial in 2014, he was charged with four counts of murder and was sentenced to life in prison in 2015.

4 William Patrick

William Patrick is one of the most prolific serial killers that terrorised Canada. He was also known as the Killer Handyman as he worked as a handyman and thus how he was able to reach his victims. The serial killer was active from 1979 to 1999. He is believed to have killed his first victim when he was 24 years old. After his arrest, Patrick confessed to four of the crimes that he had committed but it is believed that he murdered five women. He was sentenced to life in prison and he is serving his sentence in a psychiatric hospital in Saskatchewan.

5 Gilbert Paul Jordan

Popularly known as the boozing barber, Gilbert used alcohol as the weapon of choice when he was murdering his victims. He would target sex workers who would easily agree to drink with him and then ply them with alcohol until they lost consciousness. When the victim passes out, Gilbert would not stop there he would continue pouring alcohol into them until they died. Unfortunately, Gilbert was only sentenced to five years for the death as the local authorities did not see the death of sex workers as of utmost importance. The serial killer died in 2006.

6 Allan Legere

He is another notorious serial killer that was known as the Monster of Miramichi. Allan had first been convicted for the murder of John Glendenning before he escaped police custody and proceeded to evade them for seven months. During this time that he had escaped, he murdered four more people bringing his victim count to five. He also committed arson and rape during this period. He was caught and arrested in 1989 and charged with four counts of murder and other crimes that he had committed as a fugitive. He is now serving his life sentence at a maximum prison.

7 Peter Woodcock

During the late 1950s in Toronto, Ontario, Peter Woodcock raped and killed three small children. He was a teen when the heinous atrocities were committed. Wayne Mallette, Gary Morris, and Carole Voyce were the victims of his rape and murder. In 1957, authorities discovered him and committed him to a mental hospital. Woodcock killed Dennis Kerr, a fellow patient at the facility when he was being held at the Brockville institution. Woodcock passed away while serving his sentence at the mental institution in 2010.

8 Christian Herbert Magee

Popularly known as the Mad Slasher, this serial killer was active in the late 1970s. During the time that he was active, he killed three young women who were all under the age of twenty brutally. He also raped the victims before killing them. After being apprehended, he was put on trial but found not guilty by reason of insanity. He was committed to a maximum security institution known as Penetanguishene Mental Health Centre where he is monitored so that no more victims suffer his wrath.

9 Mark Twitchell

Unlike other serial killers who usually have a signature way that they kill their victims, Mark likens himself to the fictional character Dexter Morgan. He even earned the nickname Dexter Copycat Killer. He killed one person before he was apprehended but it is clear that he would have continued to kill the. Mark got his victim from a dating site where he made the man think they were going on a date before ambushing him.

10 David Russell Williams

As a Colonel at Base Trenton, Russell Williams previously served in the Canadian Forces. His crimes were discovered in 2010, and he was detained and charged. He committed heinous atrocities, and it is devastating to consider what his victims endured. Evidence revealed that one of his victims was severely beaten and suffocated to death. Furthermore, the serial killer used to record the heinous crimes that he committed on film which is quite scary. Additionally, Williams committed a number of break-ins.
