Pyramid Lake is  a leading international tourist destination and is perfect for the summer holidays between May and June. It is famous for breathtaking photos and unique activities such as game fishing, kayaking, canoeing, or stand-up paddle boarding.

Pyramid Lake is located in the Rockies of Jasper National Park, in Alberta Canada. It is a kidney-shaped lake at the foot of the iconic Pyramid Mountain.

The 386-foot-tall earth and rock dam was completed in 1973 and named after a pyramid-shaped rock carved out by engineers building the Old Highway 99.

Pyramid Lake is connected to the town of Jasper by Pyramid Lake Road and hiking trails.

It is a hot spot for outdoor recreation and attracts thousands of visitors each year who soak up the sun and take in the lake’s scenic beauty.

1.It is a Kidney-shaped Lake

Pyramid Lake lies at the foot of Pyramid Mountain; Alberta, Canada.

It has a total area of 1.2 kilometers squared and discharges in Athabasca River through the 2 km long Pyramid Creek.

2.It has Unique Sand Dunes Along the Edges.

The lake has sand dunes along its edges that formed as a result of the ice age movement and subsequent reshaping by wind and water.

Acting as a kind of sieve, the lake removes silt and sand from the river, allowing it to sink to the lake bed. When the water level recedes in the fall, vast sand flats are exposed and dry out, becoming vulnerable to the strong westerly winds that sweep through the lower Athabasca Valley. In winter, these winds blow the sand and silt down the valley, forming two large dune islands near the northwest shore of Jasper Lake

These dunes provide sandy shores that offer the beaches that offer the wonderful sunbathing during the summer.

Pyramid  Lake has been a fishing hotspot and  has drawn anglers from all over the world searching for the Giant Cutthroat Trout  found in this lake.

The lakes prime fishing  season is between May and June, to  target the fish and  get the best results you require a boat for you to get 30 to 40 feet deep where the best catch is found.

Pyramid lake resort is owned by Jasper and is the only property at Pyramid Lake.

There are a lot of fantastic lakes to paddle around in Jasper National Park, and Pyramid Lake is no exception. Out of many of the area’s lakes, Pyramid Lake have some of the calmest waters perfect for stand up paddle boarding.

 6. There are  Great Bike and Hiking Trails.

The Jasper Discovery Trail is a popular trail around the town. There are several trail but the one leading to the Lake is Pyramid Bench.

It has several loops including 10.4 kilometer pyramid trail taking two to fours hours, 5.1 kilometer Cottonwood Creek Loop taking one to two hours,4.8 kilometer Patricia Lake Loop taking two to three hours and 9 kilometer Mina-Riley Lakes Loop taking three to fours hours.

7. It is a Skating Haven During the Winter

Pyramid lake completely freezes over in the winter, and it turns into a winter wonderland by the end of December.
During the winter most tourist enjoys ice skating on the lake and snowshoe tours, fat biking, and horse-drawn carriages.

During the winter the Lake freezes and it offers one of the best skating experience in the entire Japer National Park.

8.It offers a great Picturesque for Photography.

Pyramid Japer lake is know as the photographers paradise due to its breath-taking scenes during different times of the day.

Pyramid lake is one of the best photography spots in all of the Canadian Rockies.
One is able to get a beautiful shot of the pyramid mountain, but the spot is at the wooden footbridge.
The best time to take the best shot is during sunshine or sunset.

There are unique sceneries all year around representing the biodiversity of the Lake. In winter the snow white back ground glacier offer photographers the magnificent cold weather nature.

Jasper lake is is surrounded by mountain ranges, many of which can be seen from various parts along the lake.

On the south the ranges are Miette range including the highest peak being  Utopia and Roche Miette mountains .Jacques ridge with Clinique Foil mountain, Roche Jacquie’s and Merlin mountains. Colin range including Mount Colin.

On the north the ranges are Victoria Cross Ranges ,De Smet Ranges-Mount  and Boste Range.

10. There is an Island in the Lake.

Pyramid Island is a small island on Pyramid Lake. It’s about 2 km past Pyramid Lake Resort and 7.5 km from the town of Jasper. You can access Pyramid Island from the water if you are paddling up.

It can also be accessed by a road or hiking trails, then you cross a small wood foot bridge to the island itself, which has benches, picnic tables and a small open wooden shelter.

The wooden footbridge is very beautiful and it offers the best photo spot in Jasper.
