10 Most Famous Indian Companies

For decades, India had followed a very different route to economic development than Japan, South Korea or China.

While its Asian rivals placed bets on manufacturing and exports, India focused on its domestic economy and grew more slowly with an emphasis on services.

But all that is starting to change is India’s annual growth in manufacturing output is accelerating, is close to catching growth in services, at 10%.

Exports of manufactured goods to the United States are now rising faster in percentage terms than China’s, although from a much smaller base.

More than two-thirds of foreign investment is going into manufacturing in India, not services.

Today, there is a huge hype around the made in India products. The Indian commercial space hosts brands from all over the world.

On the flip side, there are several Indian brands that are dominating the world through their products and services.

Some Indian companies were founded during British colonial rule. Prominent among these are Tata Group (1868), Dabur (1884), Godrej (1897), Vadilal (1907), and Parle G (1929). The oldest joint stock bank was Allahabad Bank, established in 1865.
