Dulce Maria is a singer, songwriter, actress, and author from Mexico. She has been in the entertainment industry since she was a child, doing commercials and having over 100 works to her credit.

However, she has long since left the commercial arena, having been a member of several successful music groups such as K.I.D.S., Jeans, D&D, and RBD before going solo in 2009. She is best known for her role as Roberto Alexandra in Rebelde.

Dulce Mara Espinosa Savión, better known as Dulce Mara, rose to international prominence as a result of her work with the RBD group.

Dulce Mara’s career has been filled with triumphs, both in music and on television, and she is now one of the most well-known Mexican stars in the world. These ten facts will help you learn more about her.

1. Dulce María appeared in Mexico’s version of Sesame Street

Dulce Marìa began doing television commercials as a child. In 1993, at the age of eight, she was cast in Plaza Sesamo, Mexico’s version of Sesame Street, and appeared in both live action and animated opening credits produced by Oscar González Loyo.

She also appeared in several Mexican commercials when she was younger, including one for the Mexican furniture store Viana on Mother’s Day. She was later cast in El Club de Gaby and appeared in several specials on the Mexican Discovery Kids channel. Not only that, but she began her career in soap operas on Televisa, but she discovered her true calling when she was invited to join a music project called Rebelde.

2. She has two sisters

Dulce María was born in Mexico City on December 6, 1985. She has two sisters, Blanca Ireri and Claudia. She is the great-niece of painter Frida Kahlo and has German, Native Mexican, and Spanish ancestry.

3. Dulce María released a duet with Akon

Dulce joined the Mexican music group K.I.D.S. in 1996. They were very popular among Mexican children, and she released her hit single “Beautiful,” a duet with Akon.

Dulce left the group in 1999 for personal reasons. Following her departure from K.I.D.S., Dulce and her then boyfriend, Daniel Habif, who was also a member of K.I.D.S., decided to form their own group called D&D. They recorded five songs before breaking up for unknown reasons. 

4. Dulce signed with Universal Music as a solo artist in 2009

In 2009, she recorded two new songs for the novela Verano de amor, “Verano” and “Déjame Ser,” both of which she co-wrote with Carlos Lara. Dulce also worked with Akon on a remix of his song “Beautiful.” They performed the song together at the El Evento 40 radio concert in 2009.

Dulce Mara released her first solo single, “Inevitable,” on May 17, 2010. The music video, directed by Argentinean director Francisco d’Amorim Lima, was released on May 24. Dulce Mara’s solo album Extranjera was supposed to be released on September 7, but the date was pushed back due to the recording of some new songs.

5. Dulce Marìa is a composer

Dulce María is a successful composer who has worked directly on at least four songs by the band RBD: “I want power,” “Lágrimas libertades,” “More yours than mine,” and “I would give you everything.”

One of the most difficult aspects of her career as a composer with RBD was getting accepted by the most important producers because the songs had to be commercial and well received by the group’s fans.

6. She’s Frida Kahlo’s niece

It is unknown what the genetic connection between Dulce Mara and Mexican artist Frida Kahlo is. However, it is believed that the latter was Dulce Mara’s grandmother’s cousin. In some interviews, Dulce Mara has spoken about her grandmother’s relationship with Kahlo. According to some reports, they may have been sisters.

7. She had her first child in 2020

Dulce Marìa has recently emphasized the importance of family in her life. The artist announced on Instagram on June 8, 2020, that she and Alvarez were expecting their first child. Mara Paula, their daughter, was born on November 27, 2020.

It was also in that year that the members of RBD decided to put on a show. Dulce Marìa, on the other hand, declined the invitation in order to devote herself solely to her family.

8. Dulce María helped build a playground in California

She assisted in the construction and opening of a playground in Lynwood, California, in August 2012.  Dulce participated in activities such as painting the area, mixing cement, cutting the inauguration ribbon, and taking pictures with the Hispanic families and volunteers who attended the event.

9. Dulce was the first Mexican artist to be certified platinum in Brazil

Her first album debuted at number one on the Mexican AMPROFON chart, and she was the first Mexican artist to be certified platinum in Brazil. Ya No is also a tribute to the late Tejano singer Selena. Her fourth album, Origen, was released in 2021.

10. On a film, Dulce Marìa portrayed Lupita

Aside from her television dominance, she is also a fixture on the big screen. She played Lupita in the independent film project Alguien Has Visto A Lupita? In 2010. (Has anyone seen Lupita? ), in which she co-stars with Chilean actor Cristian de la Fuente. Inesperado Amor (2000), El Agente 00-P2 (2009), and Quiero ser fiel (2010) are among her other films.

Furthermore, Dulce not only appears on-screen to entertain her audience, but she also uses her established presence to promote causes close to her heart, such as PETA (People for Ethical Treatment of Animals).

For example, in 2015, she appeared in a PETA video urging people not to visit animal-assisted circuses, and in July 2018, she joined the PETA campaign against SeaWorld.
