Marton Paul Csokas was born on 30 June 1966 in Invercargill, New Zealand. He is a New Zealand actor in film, stage, and television. A graduate of the Toi Whakaari drama school.

Marton has been working extensively in Australia and Hollywood, along with his native country, and often portrays villainous roles. Csokas is a three-time AACTA Award nominee, winning Best Actor in a Supporting Role for his performance in Romulus My Father.

1. Martin was featured in the sci-fi Into the Badlands

Into the Badlands is an American television series that premiered on November 15, 2015, on AMC. Into the Badlands has been described as “a high-octane sci-fi martial arts series” and as a “post-apocalyptic drama”.

The series follows a warrior and a young boy who journey through a dangerous feudal land together seeking enlightenment. On February 9, 2019, AMC canceled the show after three seasons. The series finale aired on May 6, 2019.

2. He was born in a working-class family

Csokas is the son of Margaret Christine and Márton Csókás I. His father was Hungarian and his mother had English, Irish, and Danish ancestry. Margaret Christine is a nurse while Márton Csókás I is a mechanical engineer for E. Hayes & Sons.

3. He attended Toi Whakaari: New Zealand Drama School

Csokas graduated from Toi Whakaari: New Zealand Drama School in 1989 with a Diploma in Acting. Toi Whakaari: NZ Drama School is New Zealand’s national drama school started in 1970. It is located in Wellington, New Zealand in the building Te Whaea: National Dance & Drama Centre.

Toi Whakaari offers training in acting, costume construction, set and props construction, performing arts management, and design for stage and screen. Toi Whakaari has a roll of approximately 130 students annually, who study for up to three years.

4. Csokas made his acting debut in 1990

Csokas made his acting debut in 1990 on the New Zealand drama series Shark in the Park. Shark in the Park is a New Zealand police procedural. It revolved around the professional and private lives of a group of officers at a Wellington police station under the command of Inspector Brian “Sharky” Finn.

The title came from the informal code term used by officers to indicate that the Inspector was about and they should “look busy”. Csokas played the role of Terry Mercer in the episode “Technical K.O.”

5. Martin once dated his Kingdom of Heaven co-star Eva Green

After Martin and Eva Green started working together on the “Kingdom of Heaven”, they began dating. Eva even moved to Martin’s house in a couple of months. They were seen together many times at movie events and festivals such as BFI London Film Festival and the Casino Royale after-party.

The two separated back in 2009. The reason behind their break up was their difference in personalities. Eva in an interview with the Telegraph said, “Love is exhausting. I don’t like flirting and when I love someone I always give everything, maybe too much. And then you have to work at it all the time”

In 2012 she also shared that she decided to be independent and have her own space. She also admitted that she felt like she ‘wouldn’t be able to live with somebody. Focusing on her career what she wanted and nothing else.

In 1990, Csokas featured in two plays. One was by Tom Stoppard, a Czech-born British playwright, and screenwriter. He has written for film, radio, stage, and television, finding prominence with plays.

The other one was by William Shakespeare, an English playwright, poet, and actor. The two plays were acted in New Zea Land where Csokas played a role.

The other two plays were the 2006’s ” Peribáñez y el Comendador de Ocaña”, a Spanish language play by Félix Lope de Vega y Carpio. The play was held by Company B in Australia. The other was 2007’s “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?” by Edward Albee was first staged in 1962.

7. Csokas won two awards after taking a role in the film “Romulus, My Father”

The drama film was released in 2007. Marton Csokas played the role of Hora, a friend of Romulus. Hora becomes a temporary father figure to a young Raimond Gaita while his father is in a psychiatric hospital.

By playing the role of Hora Csokas won an AACTA Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role. He also won a Film Critics Circle of Australia Award for Best Supporting Actor.

8. Csokas featured in the superhero film “The Amazing Spider-man 2”

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is a 2014 American superhero film based on the Marvel Comics character Spider-Man. The film was directed by Marc Webb and produced by Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach.

It is the fifth theatrical Spider-Man film produced by Columbia Pictures and Marvel Entertainment, the sequel to The Amazing Spider-Man (2012), and the final film in The Amazing Spider-Man series. Martin Csokas portrays Ashley Kafka, the head of Ravencroft Institute.
