Every day, every week, every month, and every year, Barcelona boasts a vibrant celebration of culture and entertainment, and 2024 promises to be no exception.

As the Easter festivities come to a close, April ushers in a packed lineup of exciting events, with two major film festivals taking center stage.

From April 4th to the 14th, the D’A Film Festival (Barcelona International Cinema d’Auteur Festival) will captivate audiences across 13 different locations throughout the Catalan capital, with the Center for Contemporary Culture Barcelona (CCCB) and Mooby Aribau serving as the main venues.

But the cinematic extravaganza doesn’t stop there – from April 18th to the 26th, the BCN Film Fest (Barcelona Sant Jordi International Film Festival) will take over 12 locations across Barcelona, including the iconic Cinemas Verdi and the prestigious cultural center CaixaForum, as reported by Catalan News.

The D’A festival promises more than just movies, with the premiere of the first episode of director Clara Roquet’s highly anticipated series ‘Las largas sombras’ set to be unveiled and made available for streaming on Disney+.

This thrilling series follows a group of women whose lives are turned upside down after the remains of a former classmate, who disappeared during their senior trip, are discovered.

Roquet’s directorial prowess is highly anticipated, following the success of her 2021 award-winning film ‘Libertad’.

Not to be outdone, the BCN Film Fest boasts an impressive lineup of 69 movies, including 15 world premieres, 20 Spanish premieres, and 11 Catalan premieres.

The festival promises to be more than just a celebration of cinema, with an awards ceremony slated for the closing gala on April 26th.

American director Richard Linklater will be honored with the Honorary Award and will personally present his latest work, “Hit Man,” for its Spanish debut.

Among the highly anticipated films, Spanish director Pau Teixidor’s ‘Alumbramiento’ and Catalan directors Laura Jou’s ‘Caídi Libre’ and Ibai Abad’s ‘Escanyapobres’ are expected to be strong contenders for the Best Movie award.

So, as the Easter celebrations come to a close, film enthusiasts can look forward to a cinematic extravaganza in Barcelona.

Tickets for the D’A Film Festival are already available on their official website, while the BCN Film Fest program will be announced on April 5th, with tickets going on sale from April 11th.

Mark your calendars and prepare to immerse yourself in the magic of cinema in the vibrant city of Barcelona.
