With summer approaching, Brits should be informed of the new passport regulations before going on vacation.

France is one of the most popular summer vacation destinations for British tourists. It’s easy to believe that all you need to do is show up at the airport with your boarding card and passport, and you’re done. However, since Britain left the European Union (EU), it is important to check the specific legislation of the nation you are visiting before arriving at the airport.

Understanding travel laws and limits is critical to ensure that your vacation begins well. However, with so many sites available, it can be complicated and irritating to discover the most current and correct travel advice, laws, and restrictions. The Gov. uk website provides country-specific advice and information, such as the latest passport requirements for France:

France follows the Schengen passport standards. Your passport should be:

Issued less than ten years before the date you enter the country (check the ‘date of issue’ marker on your passport).

Valid for at least three months after the day you intend to leave (check the ‘expiry date’ stated on your passport).

If you do need to renew your passport, keep in mind that higher fees went into effect in April 2024. Here are the current passport renewal fees:

A basic online application made from within the UK costs £57.50 for minors and £88.50 for adults.

Standard postal applications cost £100.00 for adults and £69.00 for youngsters.

A regular online application from overseas costs £101.00 for adults and £65.50 for children.

A standard paper application, when applying from overseas, costs £112.50 for adults and £77.00 for children.

Remember that it can take up to three weeks to receive a new passport, but it can take longer during peak periods such as the school summer holidays. If you are unsure about France’s restrictions while traveling, whether passport-related or not, contact the country’s embassy; they will be able to provide you with the most up-to-date information you will need for a smooth journey to your destination.
