You have probably heard of Maundy Thursday. What is it? Maundy Thursday is a Christian holiday celebrated on Thursday before Easter Sunday. This year, Maundy Thursday in 2024 falls on March 28th. It is a common practice celebrated all over the world by Catholic believers. Pope Francis will lead the celebration in Rome as he emulates the acts of Jesus right before his crucifixion.

But what exactly will happen on Maundy Thursday? The Pope has a meticulously prepared schedule for Easter, and Maundy Thursday is one of the most important days. Pope Francis will start the Holy Day with a Mass at St. Peter’s Basilica in the morning hours before heading to the women’s prison, where he is set to wash a few people’s feet to symbolize humility in the community.

Suppose you read about the story of Jesus Christ in the Bible. This is regarding the story where he displayed humility by washing his disciples (ordinarily, the disciples were supposed to wash his feet). Jesus’ act of humility is recorded and celebrated in the Roman Catholic Church on the famous Maundy Thursday.

During this day, a communion service will be held in the churches, where churchgoers will share bread and wine. These items represent the bread and wine that Jesus shared with his disciples. The bread represents his body, and the wine, his blood.

Join the Pope in the Vatican as he commemorates this historic day with other believers at St. Peter’s Basilica.
