Lovers of water sports will be treated to activities like river surfing, rafting, kayak cross, and a lot of fun on Saturday, April 6 on Štvanice Island in Prague. In celebrating a year of operation, the Vlny Štvanice complex will open its doors to the public the entire day from 9:00 am.
Visitors will have the chance to take part in river surfing, and paddleboarding on the Vltava River. There will also be e-foiling and kayaking on the canal. While children’s activities will include slacklining, surf skating, and exercise classes among others. All levels of expertise in water sports will be catered for, from beginners to experts.
Besides water sports, the celebration will include live music performances and DJs. There will also be diverse land activities, a pub quiz, food trucks, and more for attendees.
The organizers will also have a session to inform the public of the past achievements and their vision going forward. The debate titled Štvanice 2.0: Mapping the Future of the Island will see politicians and architects discuss and present the future development of the island.
The Vlny Štvanice project was started in 2023 by paddlers and surfers. Their water sports passion has seen the transformation of this former army training track area into a water sports park. The area is accessible to the public and operates a river surf wave and a whitewater course that visitors can enjoy around the year.
In a press release, Martin Leskovjan, chairman of the Vlny Štvanice Association, commented: “After the first year of operation, we are opening the entire area to the general public. We want it to become another revitalized space on this island in the middle of Prague”.
Last year, the Waves of Štvanice attracted over 1000 surfers. In the new season starting April 6, they will offer year-round boat rentals, courses, workshops, the River Surf Bar, and surfing for all levels.
According to information on Vlny Štvanice’s Facebook page, this first anniversary celebration will be a 17-hour mega party. The program will run from 9:00 am up to 10:00 pm or later. Organizers will balance water sports activities with exercising, singing, drinking, and dancing. It will be a family-friendly event and people can come along with their families, friends, and children.
Free entry to the Vlny Štvanice area will be possible between the tennis courts and the skate park. More details on the program can be found on the Vlny Štvanice website and social media accounts.
