Jacqueline Fernandez is a Sri Lankan actress from Manama, Bahrain and was raised in a multi-ethnic family. Jacqueline’s father Elroy Fernandez is from Sri Lanka and her mother Kim is a Malaysian. She has two brothers and an older sister. Her parents moved to Bahrain in the 1980s due to the Lankan civil unrest and hence she was born and raised in Bahrain.

After her schooling in Bahrain, she was awarded a Scholarship to study at the University of Sydney, where she pursued a degree in Media and Communications in Sydney, Australia. Having a passion for cultures and languages she also joined the Berlitz School of Languages, where she learned to speak Spanish and improve her French and Arabic.

She was crowned the Miss Sri Lanka for Miss Universe 2006 and also competed in Miss Universe 2006. After winning Miss Sri Lanka title in 2006, she entered the world of television and anchored a show called Lanka Business Report.

When Fernandez was just 19 years old, she was crowned Miss Sri Lanka, subsequently gaining entry into the Miss Universe pageant. The pageant, which that year was held in the US, gave Fernandez her first taste of the outside world.

“This trip was also a revelation as I got the first real taste of the outside world,” she told Verve. “There was real competition and a flavour of different countries, cultures and languages. This trip changed my life forever by offering me so many opportunities that opened a number of doors for me.”

She came to Mumbai on a modelling contract and landed a role in the Bollywood movie Aladin (2009) directed by Sujoy Ghosh along with well-known Indian stars like Amitabh Bachchan, Sanjay Dutt, and Riteish Deshmukh. After the success of her first film, she got signed on by Milap Zaveri for his directorial debut movie Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hai (2010.

Her co-star from her first movie, Riteish Deshmukh was her leading man again. The director recommended her to well-known director Farah Khan who guest-starred in this movie. She made a cameo appearance (in a song) in the movie Housefull (2010) which was directed by Farah Khan’s younger brother, Sajid Khan.

This talented actress won a number of awards at the start of her career. She won Star Plus Best Debut of the Year – Female award for her role in ‘Aladin’ and IIFa award for HouseFull2 under the category of Best Actress Supporting role. Fernandez was lucky enough to get the chance to work with Bollywood legend, Amitabh Bachchan. She was in  India for her small shooting assignment but later she got “the role”.

3. Jacqueline Fernandez Grew up in Bahrain

She was born in Colombo, Sri Lanka but moved to Bahrain with her family at the age of three. Her mother was an air hostess. The father moved the family to Bahrain to escape the Civil unrest between Tamils and Sinhalese, in the 1980s and that is when he met her mom, who was an air hostess at the time. Although Jacqueline grew up in Bahrain, she pursued a degree in mass communication from the University of Sydney in Australia.

It is alleged that she dated Hassan bin Rashid Al Khalifa, a Bahraini prince, from 2008 until their split in 2011. She then began dating director Sajid Khan, but the couple broke up in 2013. Jacqueline was raised in a multi-ethnic family. While her dad, Elroy is a Sri Lankan her mother, Kim is from Malaysia. The interesting fact about her is that her family members are from different countries like Malaysia, Sri Lanka, and Canada making her multicultural in nature.

While Fernandez may seem to enjoy her time in front of the camera, it took her several years to feel comfortable in front of it. “One of the most difficult things for me was that I was petrified of the camera,” she told MSN.”

“I struggled for many years because I never had any formal training. just jumped straight into it. I never really learned how to make friends with it. Only now it is starting to digest, after learning a lot more – working with amazing people and everyone giving their bits of advice on how to go about things. It has helped me become a lot more comfortable.”

5. Jacqueline Fernandez She owns a Restaurant

Jacqueline is a foodie kind of person who loves to eat different types of foods. She also has a restaurant in Colombo, Sri Lanka which is named as Kaema Sutra. This restaurant serves traditional Sri Lankan food to the people who love the dishes from her grandma’s recipe book.

The actress added to her fine-dining restaurant, Kaema Sutra that she is in partnership with Chef Dharshan Munidasa in her hometown, Colombo. In 2018, Fernandez launched Pali Thali a Thai restaurant in the suburbs of Mumbai.

In partnership with her best friend and restaurateur Mishali Sanghani, who owns Pali Village Café, the star has settled in on the popular suburb of Bandra as the location of her restaurant, since that is where she lives.

She worked as a television reporter before joining the Entertainment industry. Fernandez was born as the youngest of four children in a multi-ethnic family in Sri Lanka. At the age of 14, she was already getting her first taste of showbiz life by hosting TV shows in Bahrain. Intent on pursuing an education before pinning all her hopes on entertainment, Fernandez moved to Australia to study Mass Communications.

After leaving university, she began working as a TV reporter in her native Sri Lanka, all the while working on improving her language skills at the Berlitz School of languages. Soon after this she entered modelling and won the crown of Miss Sri Lanka Universe in the year 2006. She also hosted some shows on TV while she was just 14 years old.

7. Jacqueline Fernandez owns a Fitness Wear Company

Jacqueline Fernandez loves to work out in the gym and at home. Her daily routine of workouts includes martial arts, cardio, yoga and strength-based exercises. Her yoga instructor is Anushka Parwani and she follows a macrobiotic diet and does yoga 5 days a week.

In 2018, Fernandez decided to try her hand at something very different from anything she’d tried so far: a line of athletic wear entitled “Just F”. The line was created in collaboration with Mojostar.

“Launching Just F, a feminine take on fitness from my perspective is a big moment for me,” Fernandez told The Economic Times. “I am confident that the brand will meet and exceed the expectations of young women across India, who want to fulfil their fitness requirements without breaking the bank or compromising on style.”

8.  Fernandez is a Philanthropic

She supports a number of charity trusts from the beginning. In 2013, she sent a letter to the Philippines embassy in Colombo to transfer an elephant quickly from the inadequate Manila Zoo to a green sanctuary. She raised approx. £4000 in London MyFair to support an NGO involved in children primary education known as Pratham.

She is also a proud founder of ‘Habitat India’ which aims to improve the environmental conditions of Asian countries especially India and Sri Lanka. Her NGO works a lot for victims of many natural disasters and calamities. For instance, for the flood victims of Chennai, the dance master of Bollywood, Hrithik Roshan donated Rs 5,000,000 to her organisation.

9. She has a tight Friendship with Sonam Kapoor

Jacqueline Fernandez and famous Bollywood actress Sonam Kapoor are very close friends. They always hang out together whenever gets time. They were seen together be it any party or any award functions. There were rumours also about Jacqueline that she is attached to Sonam’s brother Arjun Kapoor during the 2015 IIFA awards but this beauty queen denied any kind of such rumours.

In the starting days of her Bollywood career, her name was linked to famous Bollywood director Sajid Khan. The news was also there that these two get married in the year 2012. This relationship cost much in her career. She lost roles infamous Bollywood movies like Krish 3 and Jism 3. It was also reported that Sajid prohibited her from kissing Hrithik Roshan on-screen and filming intimate scenes with Randeep Hooda and Arunoday Singh.

Sajid Khan was known as the Possessive boyfriend who decides the roles and films for her. Even the costumes he wore in the film had to be approved by Sajid. While Jacqueline has never spoken publicly about her relationship with Sajid, the filmmaker had talked about their break-up back in 2014. In fact, he had hinted that she used to “nag” him and even indirectly blamed her for the failure of his film Himmatwala starring Ajay Devgn.
