Evan Rachel Wood’s Courageous Stand for Fluid Sexual Identity

Evan Rachel Wood has been a key figure in the LGBTQ+ community for years. The American actress has been in the spotlight for many years after making appearances in some famous moves and series. She was part of the ‘Westworld’, ‘Thirteen’, ‘True Blood’, and ‘Once Again’ among others.

She has been open about her sexuality since she was a teenager but would only come out as bisexual in her early twenties. In her interview with Rolling Stone, Wood narrated her journey to coming out as bisexual, stating the challenges she faced as a young bisexual woman.

When Evan Rachel Wood was twelve years, she had an encounter with her female friend which opened her eyes about her sexual feelings. Her long-term female crush kissed her on the lips making Woods feel embarrassed. However, the incident was a wake-up call for Wood to find out who she really was.

She tried to find support from her mother but would not tell her because she feared being different from the rest of her friends.

In her early twenties, Wood made the bold decision to come out as bisexual despite the fear of social disapproval of the sexuality category. However, the Westworld star is braver than anything that stands in her path to happiness. She tells Rolling Stone about her first steps to coming out and the experience and treatment she received.

“I am out. It took guts. It took years of soul-searching and self-exploration. It took not always getting it right in relationships,” she explained. “But I know who I am and I am so much happier and I want other people to know that it’s not a phase,” she concluded.

Wood has used her influence and fame to teach the world about bisexuality and tried to overcome the social prejudice that the LGBTQ+ community face in the world today. Identifying as bisexual has been an eye-opener for her and she wants everyone to know something about bisexual people.

According to Wood, there are more bisexual people in the LGBTQ+ community than any other subgroup. She says that many people think of gays and lesbians when they hear about LGBTQ. However, the ‘B’ in the LGBTQ is the most dominant, followed by the gays and lesbians. Transgender and queer are the minority subgroups.

Rachel Wood has a strong stand as she tells the world that being bisexual is a separate identity in the LGBTQ+ community. She has met people who told her that she is bisexual because of indecision and that she couldn’t take sides. She tells people that being bisexual is not a step into being someone else. It is a lifelong sexual orientation and people need to understand.

Furthermore, the famous actress also explains that a bisexual person can be in a relationship with another person without changing their sexuality. According to her, sexual orientation is about the gender that you are attracted to. If she falls in love with a different gender, she remains bisexual.

Wood also tells the world that there is a lot to gain by accepting bisexual people in society and there is nothing to lose. She has maintained her position in society and helped many people to come to terms with who they are.
