Born on the 31st of March, 1948 in Washington D.C., United States Gore climbed the ladder to be a well-known politician and an environmentalist.

Similarly, he emerged the 45th Vice President of the United States under the leadership of President Bill Clinton.

Together with his wife Tipper Gore, who he married  in 1970, they had four children. They later divorced in 2010.

Democratic Party was his political affiliation through which he had once been nominated for the presidency in 2000. However, he lost to George W. Bush. During his campaign for presidency, his running mate was Senator Joseph Lieberman.

During the Vietnam War, he served as a reporter in the army.  He also obliged as a political journalist in Tennessee. This was after his 6-month military service which was less than a normal half-military tour.

Sir Albert Gore was his father and a senator of the Tennessee state and once told Al Gore to always love his country. He followed his father’s words for he served and committed himself to the well-being of the United States’ environment.

The winning of Noble Prize in 2007 was after his advocacy for a clean and conducive environment. The prize was shared with an intergovernmental panel on climatic change who had the same mission and vision as he did.

1. A Great Politician

Between 1993 to 2001, he served as the 45th United States Vice President. This came after being appointed by Bill Clinton to be his running mate. He was only 44 years when he became the Vice President.

The first Orthodox Jew named to be on a national party ticket was Al Gore. Of importance to note is that he was a Democratic Party nominee for the 2000 United States presidential election.

More importantly, he chose Senator Joseph Lieberman of Connecticut as his running mate. Together, they had a popular vote but lost to George W. Bush in a very close race after a Florida recount.

2. Great Environmentalist

Gore joined the United States House of Representatives in 1976 at the age of 28 years where he began his campaign for a clean and conducive environment and launched the GLOBE program on Earth Day in 1994.

Among the many achievements, he won the Nobel Prize on the 12th of October, 2007.  The award was shared by the intergovernmental panel on climatic change for their efforts to build up and disseminate greater knowledge about man-made climate change.

3. An Army Reporter

Gore opposed the Vietnam War but in 1969 he enlisted in the army as a reporter for the Army Flier at Alabama’s Fort Rucker. He appeared with his uniform for one of his father’s campaign commercials.

His father, Albert Gore Sr., urged him at the end of the commercial to always love his country.

Out of the normal military tour, Gore spent six months in Vietnam. It is good to note that he received an early out to attend Vanderbilt University.

4. Gore was a Tennessean Reporter

After returning from Vietnam to the United States in 1971, Gore worked as a reporter at the Tennessean. He was later moved to the city politics beat where he managed to uncover political and bribery cases that led to convictions.

While at the Tennessean, he studied philosophy and phenomenology at Vanderbilt University and later enrolled at Vanderbilt law school in 1974.

5. He quit Law School for Politics

In March 1976, Gore quit his law studies to run for the U.S. House from Tennessee. He was elected four times. He also became the first person to appear on the Cable-Satellite Public Affair Network (C-SPAN).

In 1984, Gore successfully ran for a seat in the U.S. Senate, which had been vacated by Republican Majority Leader Howard Baker.

Later, he pushed the High-Performance Computing and Communication Act of 1991, which greatly expanded the Internet.

6. First the Senate, then the Vice President

Before the former president, Bill Clinton appointed Gore Arnold as his running mate in 1992, Gore was in the senate.

His bid for the Democratic Party nomination for Presidency won him the southern states on Super Tuesday but later lost to Dukakis.

During his tenure, he worked to cut back on the government bureaucracy.

7. A Great Investor

Former Goldman Sachs Asset Management CEO David Blood and Gore, co-founded the sustainability-focused Generation Investment Management firm in 2004.

However, he has backed numerous ventures and invested in such companies as Amazon and eBay through the firm.

8. He own a TV Station

With help of Joel Hyatt, Gore founded a liberal new television called the Current TV in 2005. The cable network eventually grew to reach more than 60 million households across the United States.

Gore had announced the selling of the station to Al-Jazeera claiming that the two entities, Current TV and Al-Jazeera share a common mission which is to give voice to those who are not typically heard.

The vision of the TV stations was to speak truth to power, to provide independent and diverse points of view, and to tell the stories that no one else is telling.

9. Gore was a family man

Gore Arnold married his spouse Tipper Gore in 1970 and they brought to life four children namely; Al Gore III, Sarah Gore, Karenna Gore, and Kristin Gore. Unfortunately, the couple separated in 2010 after 40 years of marriage.

10. His participation in Trump’s Administration

United States former President Donald Trump and his daughter Ivanka Trump met Gore in 2015 to discuss climate issues. Although he described it as a lengthy and very productive session, they never lost touch.

The roll back environmental regulations by former President Trump were not Gore’s wish, hence, he was critical about the whole idea. This is the time when President Trump announced he was withdrawing the United States from the Paris Agreement.

In early 2020, Gore launched a voter registration campaign designed to increase turnout among young people who harbored concerns about climate change.
