20 Deadliest Serial Killers In 2020


 

Despite the decrease in serial killers since the dawn of the 21st century, 2020 has still had its share of serial killers who have continued to cement their place in history over the years. They have left a trail of fear and their heinous crimes continue to be the subjects of most crime TV shows, documentaries, news, podcasts, and books. These serial killers are terrifying and dangerous, with each one of them having different motives behind the murder of their victims. Their motives were either financial gain, anger thrill, or seeking attention.

With technological advances and forensic science, tracking these serial killers has been quite easy. They cannot be able to hide from the authorities, but instead, they are captured and punished severely by the law. Therefore, in this article today we are going to look at some of the deadliest serial killers who existed in 2020.

1. Travis Lewis

Travis Lewis was 16 when he murdered Sally Snowden McKay and Joseph Lee Baker on September 10, 1996. He was sentenced to 28 years in prison and after spending 23 years behind bars, Lewis was paroled in 2018. In 2020, Lewis murdered Sally’s daughter McKay who befriended Lewis and gave him a job to work at the Snowden home. Marth also supported his early release. After Martha’s murder, Lewis drowned himself in the Horseshoe Lake while he was trying to escape from the police. Lewis’s body was later retrieved from the lake by a search and rescue team.

2. Rosario Alfonso

Rosario Alfonso a former fisherman from the Las Arenitas field is accused of murdering women between December 2018 and January 2020. He was arrested on January 26, 2020, days after he had committed his fourth murder. Rosario strangled his fourth victim using her blouse and she died of suffocation in a motel located in Costerita, Culican. Other victims he murdered included: Cecelia Guadalupe, 22, Lucia Mariana, 17, and Mellissa Angelica. For all the four victims Rosario was given a minimum of 88 years and a maximum of 200 years in prison.

3. Esteban Lorenzo Duarte

Esteban Lorenzo Duarte murdered and dismembered his wife’s body in January 2020. He was on his way to dispose of his wife’s remains on the side of the tracks, meters from the Villa Astolfi station when he caught the attention of a passenger who noticed him carrying a black plastic bag that had a small crack that revealed an incipient human leg. On alarming the police, they quickly chased after him but he unfortunately committed suicide by stabbing himself with a knife before he was captured. Esteban was linked to a series of murders and several disappearances that had been reported in the area years back.

4. Kenyel Brown

Kenyel Brown also dubbed the “Metro Detroit Killer,” was a former police informant who robbed and killed six people from December 7, 2019, to February 22, 2020. The police discovered his whereabouts on February 24 and they quickly went after him. Before his arrest, Kenyel unfortunately shot himself in the head. He luckily survived his head injuries but due to some complications, he died four days later on February 28, 2020.

5. Andrey Yezhov

Andrey Yezhov also known as “The Kashirsky Maniac,” was a rapist and a serial killer who was connected to at least nine sexually-motivated attacks against women and young girls from 2010 to 2020. Out of these nine sexually motivated attacks, seven of them were fatal. When he was a teenager, Andrey began spying on women who bathed in the village’s bathhouse. He also had his first sexual encounter with a dead cow. On June 10, 2020, he was arrested and was admitted to the detention center where he hanged himself before he could get charged.

6. Ryan Scott Blinston

Ryan Scott Blinston is a notable serial killer and a pyromaniac who murdered three women in Oroville, California, from May to June 2020. Ryan came to be recognized by law enforcement in 2006 when he stole a black Ford Explorer in Hanover. In 2013 he broke into three homes and stole three guns and a Lexus. Ryan mostly murdered clients that he worked for at his tree-trimming job. He finally got arrested on June 14, 2020, when he was trying to break into a house with a hatchet. Ryan was found guilty and was sentenced to life in prison without any possibility of parole.

7. Omar Santos Loera

Omar Santos Loera or Erick Hernandez Camacho is a deadly serial killer who murdered his girlfriend Elideth Rios on June 22, 2020. Elideth had made a decision to end things with Omar but he could not agree with her decision and he proceeded to drug and asphyxiate Elideth in her apartment in the Metropolitana neighborhood. Omar committed this heinous act nine years after escaping from prison for receiving a sentence of 122 years for the murder of three people. Elideth’s family are still demanding justice for their daughter and that Omar’s whereabouts be found.

8. Ismael Antonio Sanchez and Jose Rojas

Isamel Antonio Sanchez and Jose Rojas together with two other men, were involved in three homicides that took place between November 2019 to June 2020. Their first victim was Jose   Antonio Gomez, 55, who they broke into his house and they tied him up with cables and wires and gagged him with a light blue cloth which led to suffocation and eventually death. Their second victim was Damian “Changuillo” Gomez, 76 whom they strangled to death and robbed him. Their last victim was Jose “Pepe” Porcel who was shot and killed immediately after he tried to defend himself. They were found guilty and sentenced to life imprisonment.

9. Hugo Bustamante Perez

Hugo Bustamante Perez murdered his wife and her son in 2006. Unfortunately, after a judicial system error, Perez was released in 2016. In 2020, he killed his girlfriend’s daughter, Amber Cornejo who was only 16 years old. Perez had begun to commit crimes at a very young age because he was facing a financial crisis that was motivated by his frequent visits to prostitutes, miserable past, and the consumption of alcohol and drugs. He was charged with rape with homicide and rape with femicide and due to this he qualified for life imprisonment. He is still waiting for his sentence and the people of Villa Alemana and the nation are still questioning the judicial system that wants to disappoint Ambar again.

10. Lissa Maria Caiza

Lissa Maria Caiza also known as “Mrs. Poison,” murdered her two children aged 5 and 9 by poisoning them on October 27, 2020. She was also involved in the murder of her boyfriend and her friend. During her arrest, the police found the body of a 28-year-old man Jaime Yanchaguano, who had been reported missing by his family members on October 25, 2020. He was sentenced to 34 years in prison for the murder of her children and another 22 years in prison for the murder of Jaime Yanchaguano.

11. Yuri Sparikhin

Yuri Sparikhin also dubbed, “The Novorossiysk Maniac,” is a rapist and serial killer who murdered four people in Krasnodar Krai from 1980 to 2020. Since he was a child, he was prone to aggression and sadistic behavior that led him to commit crimes at the early age of fourteen years. He was imprisoned severally and after his release, he still went back to murdering people and raping them.

On June 19, 2020, he was released from prison after spending 20 years in prison for the murder of 2 young girls. On August 14, 2020, he raped a 34-year-old woman and the woman reported him to the police. Yuri was arrested but he escaped while he was in detention. He proceeded to kill a 40-year-old woman in Krasnodar during a rape and car robbery. He’s currently serving a sentence of life imprisonment at a special regime colony.

12. Diego Ruiz Restrepo

Diego Ruiz Restrepo also known as “The Psychopath of Meiggs,” murdered at least 7 people between March and November 2020 in the Meiggs neighborhood of Estacion Central. Since 2013, Diego had been living as an undocumented immigrant and his targets were homeless people of both sexes. Ruiz’s murder spree was on November 8, 2020, when he attacked 5 people in 70 minutes and four of them unfortunately died. He was also linked to 20 other murders. He was sentenced to life in prison in July 2023.

13. Harold Haulman

Harold Haulman murdered at least three women between 2005 and 2020. He was originally convicted for the murder of a man in Germany in 1999. He lured some of his victims through dating apps. In August 2021, Harold pleaded guilty to all the murders and he was sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole. He luckily stood trial for Parlier’s murder on December 14, 2022, and was sentenced to 60 years imprisonment with a chance of parole after serving 37 years and 6 months of his sentence.

14. Omar Fernandez Herrada

Herrada murdered four people including his cousin between 2017 and 2020 in Villa Tunari. The 29-year-old was found guilty of all four murders and was given a sentence of 30 years in Chonchocoro prison in La Paz. The police excavated the land he owned in the Tres Arroyos sector municipality of Villa Tunari, and they found four bodies buried in different graves, each being in a state of decomposition.

15. Maina Ramulu

Maina Ramulu is a notable Indian serial killer who killed 16 women in India between 2003 and 2020. His wife eloped with a man a few days after their marriage and Maina developed a hatred for women. He murdered nine women in Hyderabad, India between 2003 and 2009. He was sentenced to prison for the nine murders but he escaped in 2011 and he proceeded to murder five more women.

He was captured again and was imprisoned for life but he managed to file for appeal and he succeeded. He was released in 2018 and he murdered two women the same year. He has now been charged with the murders of two other women. He committed the murders in 2020 after he was again released from prison that same year.

16. Rustam Kiknadze

Rustam Kiknadze is a rapist and serial killer who murdered three women within twenty days in the Jambyl Region in 2020. He is also involved in the murder of two women whom he murdered and set their bodies on fire in 2004. When he was on parole in 2014, Rustam sexually abused a disabled young girl. He is currently serving his 26 years imprisonment.

17. Nikolay Tishov

Nikolay Tishov also known as “The Alicante Serial Killer,” murdered Alicia Valera aged 45, by strangling her to death back in November 2020. He also murdered another woman who was a liquor store owner in Moscow. Nikolay is again connected to the 2020 unsolved murder of 66-year-old agrarian worker Antonio Huerta who was stabbed to death, to the point of almost decapitation. He is currently serving an indefinite sentence in a psychiatric institution in Smolensk, Russia.

18. Pedro Alonzo Lopez

Pedro Alonzo Lopez is involved in the murder of at least 300 people. He was diagnosed sociopath who targeted young girls. He was convicted of 110 murders and was sentenced to 16 years in prison. After serving a sentence of 14 years, Pedro was released for good behavior and of sane mind. After his release from prison, he might have been involved in at least one murder before his disappearance. Pedro is still considered one of the deadliest active serial killers in 2020.

19. The Long Island serial killer

Gilgo Beach on Long Island is the spot of this unknown serial killer who murdered 10 to 16 people in 20 years and even more. The serial killer targeted sex workers and after killing them, the victims were disposed of along the Ocean Parkway close to Gilgo Beach on Long Island, New York. The serial killer is still out there and as of May 2020, the police reported that they have discovered a new suspect using genetic genealogy techniques.

20. The Smiley Face Killer

The Smiley Face Killer is responsible for over 40 drowning deaths of college-educated white men in the Midwest. The victims were mostly drunk when they were drowned and it is also believed that they might have drowned accidentally because they were drunk. The name was given to the unknown serial killer because a smiley graffiti was found near the place where the victims were murdered. If it is proven to be true, then the Smiley Face Killer is considered to be the most dangerous serial killer in 2020.
